Who We Are

Discover Opportunities

Building Healthy Communities is a 10-year, $1 billion program of The California Endowment. The California Endowment is a foundation committed to improving the health of all Californians.

What We Do

The Hub includes everyone!

The Hub is the “central table” where community members and stakeholders come together to share decision-making and guide the efforts of the Eastern Coachella Valley BHC site.

The HUB is inclusive of ALL community members living in the targeted area. The Hub values differences in cultures, traditions, ideas, beliefs, needs and expectations, and view these differences as a resource for improving communities.

A key part of the Hub’s roles is to support the empowerment and engagement of individuals who participate, build relationships, and help to create a big-picture outlook on our future.

Everyone is encouraged to step up and offer ideas and actions for change.

What You Can Do

Join an Action Team

Building Healthy Communities has three Action Teams that are tied to the long-term BHC outcomes: Health Happens in Schools, Health Happens in Neighborhoods and Health Happens with Prevention.

What Our Community Has To Say

nancy_gonzalez"A Significant Difference"

My name is Nancy Gonzalez, I have been part of Building Healthy Communities Eastern Coachella Valley over the past two years.  I am also a member of Lideres Campesinas, a statewide organization advocating for female farmworkers throughout the Eastern Coachella Valley as well as other rural communities of California.  We are currently working collaboratively to bring transportation to North Shore. Furthermore, we advocate for environmental justice and over the past year have held a ten week institute to educate Eastern Coachella Valley residents, youth, and organization representatives to advocate for policy and systems change. BHC has helped me progress over time by providing trainings, community events and meetings that keep me and others informed. I look forward to the upcoming workgroup meetings.
